Suicide Prevention - Can you help?
Town of Bassendean 11 Jan 2019

Published: Friday, 11 January 2019 at 3:31:20 PM

In 2018, it was reported that the Town of Bassendean area has the highest incidence of suicide in the Perth metropolitan area. In response to this worrying statistic, we are seeking nominations from residents and organisations operating in the Town, to be members of the newly formed Bassendean Suicide Prevention Working Group.   If you are a representative of an organization who provides mental health services to residents in the Town or an individual with the skills, experience, interest and commitment to contribute to reducing the incidence of mental health disorders in the community, we invite you to nominate as a member of the Suicide Prevention Working Group.

The Working Group will aim to provide considered, timely and balanced advice to Council on suicide related matters relevant to the Town.  This includes:

Raising awareness of resources in the local area that support positive mental health and suicide prevention; Building community understanding to reduce the myths, misunderstandings and stigma associated with suicide; Reviewing research to enable the specific needs of vulnerable groups to be targeted and to build capacity; Developing materials and initiatives/programs that support these objectives.

The Working Group will meet at a time most convenient for members and as frequently as required to ensure the objectives are met.

Nomination forms can be found at the following link and nominations are open until 8th February. If you have any queries, please contact Graeme Haggart on 9377 8000.
