Bureau of Meteorology modelling suggests that a heatwave will impact NSW from Tuesday 15 January through to Saturday 19 January 2019.

Extreme heat or heatwave is a period of unusual and uncomfortable hot weather that could negatively affect human health. Extreme heat can also affect community infrastructure (such as power supply and public transport) and other services. Extreme heat can affect everyone, however some people are more vulnerable.

Heat-related illnesses

Residents are urged to take precautions against dehydration and other heat-related conditions, by staying cool and drinking plenty of water.

Heat-related illnesses include confusion, heat rash, headaches, heavy sweating, dizziness, nausea, vomiting and fainting.

People showing any of these signs should seek urgent medical attention through their GP or local emergency department.

Stay healthy in the heat

NSW Health has advised people should take simple precautions to ensure they stay healthy in the heat by:

Staying well hydrated Avoiding alcohol and hot or sugary drinks Limiting your physical activity  Trying to stay out of the sun during the hottest part of the day.
