Australia Day is one of the most rejoiced days on the national calendar.
It is a day for our diverse community to unite and celebrate what makes our country great. It is a day for us to welcome new citizens and recognise the amazing people in our society who have earned the honour of receiving an Australia Day Award.
Australia Day festivities will be held across the Alexandrina region at Goolwa and Strathalbyn, on Saturday 26 January 2019, commencing with traditional breakfasts in the morning followed by Citizenship Ceremonies and Australia Day Award presentations.
Strathalbyn will open the festivities at the Soldiers Memorial Gardens at 7:30am where you can purchase a hearty Australian breakfast, proudly prepared by the Rotary Club of Strathalbyn.
Following breakfast, the Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony will commence at 9:00am, with the Australia Day Awards to be presented afterwards.
Goolwa’s celebrations will commence at 8:00am with breakfast available for purchase at the Goolwa Bowling Club on Goyder Street, thanks to the Lions Club of Goolwa.
The festivities will then shift to Centenary Hall on Cadell Street at 11:00am, where Goolwa’s Citizenship Ceremony will take place and Australia Day Awards presented.
Everyone is welcome and encouraged to get involved in the celebrations, welcoming Australia’s newest citizens and congratulating our deserving Australia Day Award recipients.
Breakfasts are sold for a small fee but all ceremonies are free of charge.
