Emergency Relief Centre (CLOSED - ON STANDBY)

The Relief Centre at the Sale Baptist Church has currently been closed and placed in standby mode due to lack of demand. It has the capacity to be re-activated within 30 minutes if required.

ROSEDALE FIRE Overview

The Rosedale - West Boundary Track South fire began on 4 January 2019 and was brought under control (Level 1) on Monday 14 January 2019. The bushfire was 12,178 hectares in size and covered an area including Holey Plains State Park and HVP Longford plantations, south of the Longford-Rosedale Road, east of Merton Vale Road and north of Merriman Creek. The bushfire was 6.3km south of Rosedale. The majority of the impacts from the fire were on state forest and pine plantations owned by HVP.  

Below is information on support that is available for private property owners who experienced losses as a result of the Rosedale Fire. 

Recovery

A Municipal Recovery Committee has been established to respond to the impacts from the Rosedale – West Boundary Track South fire. The committee is meeting regularly and is made up of representatives from agencies who have a vested interest in the recovery process, including HVP, Department Environment Land and Water Protection, CFA, WSC, DHHS, Victoria Police, Department of Education and Training, Red Cross and Regional Development Victoria.

The committee is being coordinated by the Municipal Recovery Manager (MRM) at Wellington Shire Council who can be contacted on 1300 366 244 or email [email protected].

Fencing Assistance

Fencing labour support (can be requested through the Municipal Recovery Manager, Wellington Shire Council, phone 1300 366 244) who will assist to co-ordinate support from various agencies such as:

Catchment Management Authority - Running a drought employment program where assistance may be accessed. Fulham Prison work crews. Blazeaid has a program for faming families and individuals impacted by natural disasters. The program provides volunteer labour and financial assistance towards fencing costs. Waste

Fire impacted landholders can make contact with Wellington Shire Council for assistance with waste disposal. Please provide to Council a description of waste type and estimated volume. Council Officers will confirm details and inspect the site to determine the most effective response. Things that Council officers will take into consideration will include:

Recycling opportunity Presence of asbestos (will require specialist response) Accessibility to site Urgency/priority Gippsland Emergency Relief Fund
