Picturesque Bowral trip planned for seniors

Canterbury-Bankstown’s seniors are invited to enjoy a day trip to picturesque Bowral, as part of the City’s annual Seniors Festival activities.

Three trips are scheduled for Tuesday 19, Wednesday 20 and Thursday 21 February. The day will begin at 8am, with pick-ups at both the Bankstown and Campsie Customer Service Centres, and conclude at 4pm. It will include morning tea at Bowral Senior Citizens Centre in Corbett Gardens, before lunch at Mittagong RSL and a chance for shopping in Bowral.

Ann Griggs, who has enjoyed the day trips over the past two years, is looking forward to experiencing the history Bowral has to offer.

"I really enjoyed going to Berry last year and Kiama the year before that. My friends and I had a bit of a girl’s day out together," the Greenacre resident said.

"You don’t have to worry about a thing. It is very well organised; all you have to do is sit back and relax, take in the scenery and enjoy the food."

Mayor Khal Asfour said he was proud of Council’s commitment to the annual festival.

"Our seniors are such a special part of the Canterbury-Bankstown community and continue to play a very important role," he said.

"So we need to take the time to say thanks to them and our Seniors Festival program, which is one of the biggest in the state, is a way of doing that."

Places are limited for the Bowral coach trip, so bookings are essential. Tickets are $20, inclusive of morning tea and lunch, and go on sale at Bankstown and Campsie Customer Service Centres from Tuesday 22 January.

Canterbury-Bankstown’s Seniors Festival activities run from Wednesday 13 February to Sunday 24 February, and kick-off with Tea, Dance and Fiesta at Bankstown Arts Centre on Wednesday 13 February (10am-noon).

This year’s Seniors Week theme is Love your Life and also includes the following:

Susan Zimmerman Exhibition at Bankstown Arts Centre, showcasing throughout February (9am-5pm); Retirement Village Living seminar at Bankstown Library and Knowledge Centre, on Wednesday 13 February (10-11am); Don’t Knock Your Granny theatre performance by The Older Women’s Network at Campsie Library and Knowledge Centre, on Thursday 21 February (2-3pm);Meals on Wheels Volunteers Concert at Club Condell Park, on Thursday 14 February (10am-noon);Ladies in Black movie screening at Bankstown Library and Knowledge Centre, on Wednesday 20 February (10am-noon); and Seniors Concert at Bankstown Sports Club, on Sunday 24 February (2-4pm);
