Why go away when there’s plenty to do in Canterbury-Bankstown over the summer break? Throughout January, children and youth will be spoilt for choice with the list of activities on offer.

For those looking to part-take in some traditional Australian activities, why not join in one of Belmore Youth Resource Centre’s Aussie-themed days out?

From Monday 14 January through to Friday 25 January, youth can chill out at Birrong Leisure and Aquatic Centre with a BBQ day; swing a FREE ride to Cronulla Beach, through Council’s Bus 2 Beach Program; learn how to roller skate; take a trip to Jamberoo; go wild at Wet N’ Wild; take a guided tour of Indigenous culinary at the Royal Botanical Garden; be part of an overnight kayak trip to Kangaroo Valley; or join Council’s FREE Cricket Skills Clinics for 5-13 year-olds, hosted by Sydney Thunder.

Sessions will take place on Friday 18 January at Blick Oval, Canterbury (10am) and on Friday 25 January at Bankstown Memorial Oval, Bankstown (10am).

If you’re looking for a more relaxing morning with friends, why not get active with some FREE lawn bowls? There’s even a social lawn bowls session for parents and carers. Bowls will also be taking place for children from 5-17 years, on Wednesday 16 January at Padstow Bowling and Recreation Club (10am), and on Wednesday 23 January at Chester Hill Bowling Club (10am).

Love sport? We’ve got you covered at Morris Iemma Indoor Sports Centre. From Monday 21 January to Friday 25 January, MIISC will be hosting a Multi-Sports Day; Scooter/Bike Day; Movie Afternoons; Soccer/Basketball Clinics; and an introduction to Taekwondo and Nerf Gun fun.

Those after a crafty summer can enjoy a two-day Ceramic Workshop on Friday 18 and 25 January, at Bankstown Arts Centre, or laze about watching a FREE screening of Wonderstruck (Tuesday 22 January) or Paper Planes (Thursday 24 January) at 11am.

Want to escape the heat? Cool down in our air-conditioned Library and Knowledge Centres, which are offering shows and activities, including Stig Live @ The Library on Friday 18 January. Or climb your way to fun with Treehouse series narrator Stig Wemyss. The renowned audiobook narrator will bring his vibrant, high-energy live show to the Bryan Brown Theatre at 2.30pm.

Finally, a FREE World Sports Day will be held for students aged 9-12 years, on Wednesday 16 January at Belmore South Public School, Canterbury Road, Belmore.
