Works in and around Emerald Botanic Gardens

Works are underway in and around the Emerald Botanic Gardens with pathway upgrades and construction of a facilities building at McIndoe Park Function Centre.

Central Highlands Regional Council Councillor Megan Daniels said it is all about making more of the Gardens accessible for everyone and improving parks and facilities.

‘On the eastern side of the Gardens, we’re constructing a culvert crossing over the lagoon floodway that will provide safe all-weather access,’ she said.

‘This path will continue along the lagoon bank and join up with the existing path at the windmill and create a new one-kilometre loop around the lagoon that is accessible for everyone.’

Cr Daniels said works on the western side are improving safety and user-friendliness of the existing pathways.

‘We are replacing the section from the southern side of the John Gay Bridge and realigning the sharp downhill corner,’ she said.

‘Unfortunately, the path is closed during construction, but it’s expected to only take one week.’

Works on the eastern side of the Gardens are supported by $200,000 from the Queensland Government’s Works for Queensland (W4Q) program and works on the western side are part of the $1.4 million project supported by the Queensland Government’s Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program.

Contractors have also commenced upgrades at McIndoe Park Function Centre. The upgrades include four change rooms, referee rooms, first aid, public facilities with disability access, baby change area and ticketing booth. Works will limit the parking space at McIndoe Park until planned completion in April.
