Toowoomba Regional Council will temporarily close a section of Griffiths Street between Goombungee Road and the Mort/Hogg Street intersection from 7.00am, Saturday January 19 to 7.00pm Sunday January 20.  The temporary change of traffic conditions is to provide a safe environment for Queensland Rail to commission the level crossing.

Council’s Deputy Mayor and Chair of the Infrastructure Committee Cr Carol Taylor said during this time Griffiths Street will become one-way for westbound traffic whilst eastbound traffic will need to seek an alternate route via Jellicoe Street or North Street.

“Detour signage will be put in place to assist motorists. However, heavy and oversize vehicles will need to travel via Jellicoe Street as an alternate heavy vehicle route due to the height restriction of 3.5metres on North Street.

Cr Taylor said significant progress had been made on upgrading Griffiths Street.

“The Griffiths Street Upgrade Project will be the primary connection between the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing (TSRC) and the New England Highway via Mort Street, improving traffic conditions for all users.

“Council thanks businesses and the community for their patience and co-operation during these works and apologises for any inconvenience these works may cause.”
