Bathurst’s 2019 Australia Day celebrations will continue to take place over two days with the Citizenship Ceremony now taking place on Australia Day.
Mayor Graeme Hanger OAM said following feedback from the community and discussions with Councillors, the Citizenship Ceremony will now be held on Australia Day, Saturday 26 January, rather than the Friday evening.
“The ceremony is an important milestone for those residents who are taking the step to become Australian citizens and they will be able to celebrate this on Australia Day,” Cr Hanger said.
Council’s other scheduled Australia Day celebrations remain unchanged. The award ceremony to recognise outstanding achievements in the Arts and Environment and to honour our Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year will still be held on Friday evening at BMEC. Doors open at 5.30pm with the ceremony commencing at 6.00pm.
On Saturday, 26 January celebrations continue with an 8.00am barbecue breakfast at Eglinton War Memorial Hall. After breakfast cool off at the pool with free entry to the Manning Aquatic Centre - Bathurst from 11.00am.
The 2019 Bathurst Australia Day ambassador is Greg Donovan who, through his successful career in endurance sports, has dedicated himself to raising funds to find a cure for Type 1 diabetes.
