Older residents are invited to embrace the Love Your Life theme and take part in more than 50 events and activities in Campbelltown City during the Seniors Festival next month.
Previously held in late March-April, the Seniors Festival has been brought forward this year and will be held from 13 to 24 February.
Council is hosting events including afternoon and evening movie screenings, a sensory walk and concert for people living with dementia, Campbelltown Arts Centre tours and workshops, Tech Savvy Seniors sessions and a Let’s Talk Legal series.
“Our seniors are a valuable part of our community in Campbelltown and their skills, knowledge and experience are highly valued,’’ said Mayor George Brticevic.
“This festival is a chance for our seniors to join in the fun, socialise, make new friends and meet up with their friends locally,’’ Cr Brticevic said.
Council is offering free seven-day passes to seniors to use during the festival via Campbelltown Active at Macquarie Fields Leisure Centre, Macquarie Fields Fitness and Indoor Sports Centre, Eagle Vale Central and Gordon Fetterplace Aquatic Centre, Bradbury.
The passes are available to seniors who are currently not members of the facilities and can be used to access pool and fitness classes including aqua fitness, gentle exercise and pilates.
Tech Savvy Seniors will be held at Eagle Vale Library over five weeks on Tuesdays, 12, 19 and 26 February and 5 and 12 March from 10am to 12pm. Free entry.
Seniors are invited to watch the free afternoon screening of the 1950’s classic movie Calamity Jane, starring Doris Day, on Wednesday, 13 February from 1.30pm to 3.30pm at Campbelltown Arts Centre.
Campbelltown Arts Centre will host Borrowed Stories: female Elder interviews on Wednesday, 13 February at 10am, 10.30am, 11am, 11.30am, 12pm and 12.30pm. Bookings are essential for this free event.
Library Lovers Day will be held at HJ Daley Library, Campbelltown, on Thursday, 14 February with the launch of the Social Scrabble Club from 12.30pm to 2.30pm.
The Sapphires, the Australian movie about four talented young Aboriginal girls who entertain the troops in Vietnam, will screen on Thursday, 14 February from 7.30pm at Campbelltown Arts Centre. The night begins with a free gallery tour from 6pm to 7pm. Entry is free and bookings are essential.
A sensory walk for people with dementia will be held in the Connections Garden at the Australian Botanic Garden, Mt Annan, on Tuesday, 19 February from 10am to 3pm. The cost is $4 for lunch.
People with dementia and their carers are invited to a concert at Campbelltown Wests Leagues Club on Wednesday, 20 February from 11am to 1pm. Cost is $4 for lunch.
A free Let’s Talk Legal: Elder Law Issues event will be held at HJ Daley Library, Campbelltown, on Thursday, 21 February from 2pm to 4pm.
The Seniors Festival is for people over the age of 60, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residents over age 50 and people over age 50 who have a lifelong disability.
