A poetry slam is the culminating event to be held as part of the celebrations for the 2019 Seniors Festival by Lithgow City Council and Lithgow Library Learning Centre. In the lead up to this event, spoken work wordshops will be held to give locals a chance to brush up on their poetry skills.
During the wordshop participants will be mentored by a professional spoken word artist, who will provide guidance to participants to write their own poems and take their poetry to another level. There is more to poetry than just creating rhymes, with form and voice playing a very big role. The wordshops will take the writer through the various types of poems and writing styles as well as delivering them to an audience.
“Seniors Week is an important event on the Council and Library calendars. This year we have an art competition, poetry slam competition, an elder financial abuse seminar, as well as the wordshops which look like a lot of fun,” said Mayor Ray Thompson. “I encourage the community to get involved in Seniors Week events.
The wordshops will be held on Wednesday 6 and 13 February and Saturday 16 February between 10am and 12pm. Places are limited and bookings are essential. To book your place, contact Viktoria Gulabovski on 63549909 or by email [email protected].
Don’t forget to mark Thursday 21 February 2019 from 11am to 1pm in your diary for the poetry slam competition. This should prove to be a fun event culminating in a light lunch. More information on this event will be available soon.
