Australia's oldest professional cycling race, the Jayco Herald Sun Tour, is coming to Baw Baw with riders travelling through and finishing the third stage in Warragul on Friday 1 February 2019.
Now in its 66th edition, the ‘SunTour’ has captured the attention of sports fans throughout Victoria.
Riders from around the world compete in the Tour, with a long and distinguished list of past winners, and an honour role that includes Tour de France Champions Chris Froome and Sir Bradley Wiggins
Stage three of the five-stage men's road race will depart Sale in the morning and travel 161.6 kilometres through Gippsland’s challenging landscape - completing the stage at approximately 2.12pm on Bowen Street in Warragul.
Race followers can immerse themselves in the action at the following viewing points:
Sale (Start) – Port of Sale, Canal Rd: 9:00am to 10:00am Sale – Princes Hwy (Foster St) and Reeve St: 10:00am to 10:10am Maffra (Sprint #1) – Johnson St: 10:15am to 10:40am Glengarry – Cairnbrook Rd: 11:40pm to 12:05pm Tyers – Main Rd (Brown Coalmine Rd): 11:55pm to 12:20pm Yallourn North (KOM #1) – North Rd: 12:10pm to 12:40pm Willow Grove (Sprint #2) – Moe-Willow Grove Rd: 12:45pm to 1:10pm Shady Creek (KOM #2) – Old Sale Rd (at Yarragon-Shady Creek Rd): 1:15pm to 1:40pm Warragul (Finish) – Bowen St: From 1:50pmTimes are based on an estimated average speed across the whole race. The average speed could be different dependent on several factors such as weather, so be sure to not miss out by getting into position early to see the riders race through.
The community is encouraged to join in the excitement at the finish line at Bowen Street from 1:00pm – 3:00pm for a celebratory festival. Activities include rider interviews, sponsor activations and displays, family entertainment and live commentary. Race presentations will take place at 2.30pm.
Throughout the entire race riders will pass through Wonthaggi, Churchill, Sale, Warragul, Cape Schanck, Arthurs Seat with the final stage taking place in Melbourne’s Botanic Gardens.
