Commuter bus trial update
Bayside City Council 17 Jan 2019

The commuter bus trial has re-commenced after the Christmas/New Year break. The service circulating in streets around Brighton and Brighton East aims to reduce pressure on commuter parking at Middle Brighton station and encourage the use of public transport as a sustainable option.

The trial started in October and is making use of Council’s existing 12-seater mini-buses. The service operates between 6.30am - 7.40am (last pick-up) and 5pm – 7pm on weekdays.

Bus patronage, parking around Middle Brighton Station and feedback from users and the community is being monitored during the trial. Council will decide whether to continue the commuter bus service at its 19 February 2019 meeting.

Acting Chief Executive Officer, Steven White, said Council had received feedback both in support and against the commuter bus.

“Councillors will review the outcomes of the trial in February which will include patronage of the service,” said Steven.

"We will also look at whether the service has reduced the demand for car parking at the station.”
