Australia Day is a day to reflect on what it means to be Australian, to celebrate contemporary Australia and to acknowledge our history.

It’s also a special time to welcome our newest local citizens at our citizenship ceremony.

On 26 January 2019, the Australian Government will mark 70 years since Australian citizenship was introduced into law, creating for the first time a legal status of being uniquely Australian. For 70 years, citizens have been working together to build a strong, united and prosperous Australia.

All citizens commit to Australia and its people, working together to increase the prosperity of our nation. In 2019 we celebrate the diverse stories of our citizens, the values that we share and the history we create together.

In the lead up to Australia Day, we will acknowledge the great work of our residents through the Australia Day Awards Ceremony which will be held on Friday the 25th January.

I want to invite the community to come and share in the community’s successes.

As part of the ceremony, we will have two guest speakers, Australia Day Ambassador Carmel Crouch and special guest Michael Kasprowicz. This event is proudly supported by the Queensland Government.

Come and celebrate what it means to be Australian this Australia Day at the Kennedy Regiment Memorial Pool for a pool party! It’s free entry, lots of games, live music and some great Aussie food, including a sausage sizzle.

However you choose to spend your long weekend, have a Happy Australia Day!
