Kyneton sculptor and local gallery owner Larissa Gray has been named as the successful applicant for the art exchange with Macedon Ranges’ sister city of Tokai in Japan.
Popular for her bronze and mixed media sculptural pieces that depict iconic Australian animals, Larissa will create three bronze artworks that will be sent over to Tokai, Japan in April.
In November Council invited local artists to submit an expression of interest to create an artwork that investigates and interprets the essence of the Macedon Ranges, its communities and its environment.
Mayor, Cr Janet Pearce said the project is an action from the Sister City Agreement between Council and Tokai City.
“This is the first time that we’ve had a reciprocal art exchange with Tokai, so we’re really looking forward to it.”
Ms Gray was chosen by a panel with representatives from Council’s Arts & Culture and Economic Development departments, Multicultural Arts Victoria and Regional Arts Victoria.
“Larissa has a great appreciation of Japan having travelled there many times and was extremely excited to be part of the exchange,” Cr Pearce said.
