Human Rights Advocate is Fairfield City's Australia Day Ambassador

Arash Bordbar, the 2016 Young People Human Rights Medal winner from Australia Human Rights, has been announced as Fairfield City’s Australia Day Ambassador for 2019.
Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone said it was fitting to have a person committed to improving people’s lives as ambassador for Fairfield City.
“It is our pleasure to have Mr Bordbar as our ambassador to help us celebrate our Australia Day community awards and see residents take out Australian citizenship,” Mayor Carbone said.
Arash Bordbar, a 24-year-old refugee from Iran, is currently undertaking a Bachelor of Engineering at the University of Western Sydney. He has extensive experience volunteering and working for organisations supporting young refugees and is an advocate for gender equality and access to education and employment opportunities.
He participated in the Global Refugee Youth Consultation in Australia and Geneva in June 2016 and June 2017.
Arash is about to lead the creation of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Global Youth Advisory Council to give youth a voice during the decision making process of UNHCR.
Arash will join Council for the Australia Day Community Awards event and citizenship ceremony on Saturday 26 January.
