A huge upgrade is underway for Pioneer Park and Keith Johns Park in Proserpine, with construction beginning to replace the existing playground in Pioneer Park in early February.
A new climbing net dome, tower track ride, mouse wheel, and swing set including a bird’s nest swing, will be installed in Pioneer Park over the coming months.
Keith Johns Park will also be upgraded soon with a small unisex public amenities block and a new play quad tower with softfall, which incorporates climbing, balancing and sliding fun.
Deputy Mayor and Division 3 Councillor John Collins said the new playgrounds show Council’s commitment to listen and take action by delivering for the community.
“Residents were asked to vote online for their preferred play equipment during consultation in late 2017, and these preferences have been incorporated into the final layout,” he said.
“The new playgrounds will give families yet another way to spend quality time together in our beautiful town, along with the new $1.7 million Water Park which opened in August last year.”
The works are expected to be finished and the playgrounds ready for use by late May 2019, weather permitting.
During the construction, sections of Pioneer Park and Keith Johns Park will be fenced off to complete the works, and there may be some noise and disruption in the parks during this time.
While the works are underway in Pioneer Park, the existing public amenities and seating shelters will remain open, where possible, so residents and visitors can continue to enjoy these facilities.
These park upgrades are funded by the Queensland Government’s Works for Queensland program.
