Multicultural Morley celebrated

The cultural diversity of Morley is on display with a vibrant new mural by well-known local fashion illustrator Pippa McManus recently completed in the town centre. The 15 metre artwork stretches along the previously blank wall of the Rivers Building on Bishop Street.

Community group Morley Momentum successfully applied for grant funding through the City of Bayswater to bring the project to life, along with in-kind donations and support from Morley Inspirations Paint, Vicinity Centres and the property owner.

The mural celebrates five of the diverse cultures most commonly represented in Morley; Vietnamese, Italian, Indian, Malaysian and Polish.

Mayor Dan Bull said the artwork was a colourful reminder of Morley's multicultural identity.

"Morley is truly diverse, with almost half of the people who live here born overseas.

"This mural, along with the artwork recently completed at Coventry Village, is a big celebration of Morley's diversity. The rich tapestry of the community is now on display to hundreds of visitors to this busy retail precinct each day.

"It's been fantastic to see local groups and business comes together, along with the City, to support the common goal of bringing art and creativity to Morley.

The mural is located at 2-16 Bishop Street, Morley.
