MEDIA RELEASE 21 January 2019
Bathurst Regional Council has commenced work on the $1.5 million redevelopment of Scallywags Child Care Centre.
Deputy Mayor Cr Bobby Bourke said demolition work had commenced on site at Scallywags in the first stage of the redevelopment of the centre.
“The contractors moved onsite in the New Year and work has started on demolishing parts of the building in readiness for the extension of the building.
“Once completed the building will be home to all of Council’s child care facilities – Scallywags, Little Scallywags and Family Day Care services.
“While the work is undertaken children attending Scallywags are utilising Council’s Lee Street facilities, the current home of our Family Day Care services. Little Scallywags is operating as usual.
“The new centre is scheduled to open in July,” Cr Bourke said.
Council has been actively involved in the provision of education and care services for almost 30 years and the redevelopment of Scallywags allows Council to consolidate all of its child care facilities into one location in the CBD.
Council has received $100,000 from the State Government from the Stronger Country Community Fund towards the project.
