What’s News at Bathurst Regional Council

Australia Day

Friday 25 January

The Awards Ceremony will be held at Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre where the community will come together to recognise notable achievements in our local community. Doors open at 5.30pm with the Ceremony commencing at 6pm. Entry is free and the whole community is invited.

Saturday 26 January

Celebrations will continue with a BBQ breakfast, official ceremony and free kids’ activities at the Eglinton War Memorial Hall from 8am. Entry is free, and everybody is welcome. After breakfast cool off at the pool with free entry to the Aquatic Centre from 11am or help us welcome our newest Australian Citizens at the Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre from 10am.

The Citizenship Ceremony will be held at Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre where the community will come together to celebrate our new citizens. The Ceremony will commence at 10am.

Operation Cat

For a limited time, the Cat Protection Society NSW Inc is offering $50 cat desexing plus F3 vaccination for health care card holders and pensioners who are residents of the Bathurst LGA. Inc conjunction, Council is also offering microchipping free of charge as part of the ‘Operation cat’ program. Bookings for the program must be made by calling 9519 7201. The program will conclude on 22 February depending on available slots. Availability is limited to 80 spots.

Dog Whisperer

Local residents are invited to an evening with Australia’s dog training specialist, Steve Austin. Steve’s credentials regarding dog training and behaviour are second to none and internationally recognised. He will be discussing responsible dog ownership at BMEC on 15 February at 7pm. Tickets are free, call 6333 6161 to book.

Celebrate Seniors Festival

Seniors Festival is a celebration of the valuable contribution seniors make to the Bathurst community. An array of events, activities and entertainment will be on offer between 13 and 24 February for all seniors to enjoy, including historic bus tours, music, morning teas, open days and much more.

Meet the Diprotodon

A new exhibition is on at the Australian Fossil and Mineral Museum featuring Darren the Diprotodon until 31 March. The Diprotodon, which looked like a giant wombat, is the largest known marsupial to have ever lived. The exhibition includes the Diprotodon fossil as well as historical drawings of diprotodon fossils. For more information visit www.somervillecollection.com.au

George and Howick Street Roundabout Upgrade

The upgrade of the George and Howick Street roundabout is continuing. This project will significantly improve safety and enable smoother flow of traffic at the intersection. For regular project updates visit https://yoursay.bathurst.nsw.gov.au

Sustainable Living Expo

The Bathurst Sustainable Living Expo will be held on Saturday 23 March at the Bathurst Showgrounds. Businesses with sustainable products and services are invited to exhibit. Contact Council on 6333 6511 for more information.

Bathurst NRL tickets on sale

Tickets are now on sale for the round three NRL clash between Penrith Panthers and Melbourne Storm at Carrington Park on Saturday, 30 March. To purchase tickets or for more information visit bathurstnrl.com.au

Draft Bathurst Public Art Policy Public Exhibition

Council has prepared a Draft Bathurst Public Art Policy, which is on exhibition for community feedback.

Hard copies of the Draft Policy are available for viewing at the Civic Centre and Bathurst Library, or can be downloaded from the Your Say Bathurst website. Submissions can be lodged via Your Say Bathurst or in writing to the General Manager, Private Mail Bag 17, Bathurst NSW 2795 by 4pm Thursday 21 February 2019.

Annual Funding/Donations Program Section 356 Donations

Council is seeking expressions of interest from community organisations and individuals seeking funding from Council to be included in the 2019/2020 budget. Funding is available for the period from 1 July 2019 to 30 June 2020.

To apply, submit an application form which is available on Council’s website or from the Civic Centre, 158 Russell Street, Bathurst by 4.00 pm on Tuesday 5 February.

Organisations/groups who have received funding previously should re-apply if they wish to be considered for further funding.
