All the way from Glenelg through the Fleurieu Peninsula and ending in Strathalbyn, southaustralia.com Stage 5 of the Santos Tour Down Under took the event on a whirl of a ride.
The judges agreed that the decorations for this stage of the tour were a great representation of the communities that lined the race route.
“Today’s Santos Best Dressed Town daily winner is Strathalbyn as the town took local pride in the Santos Tour Down Under to a new level with their red-and-white theme,” said the judges.
The judges were particularly impressed with the use of red-and-white colours as they represented local sporting clubs, featuring throughout business windows, street plantings and private homes.
The decorations of the town were made by a great community effort with the Strathalbyn Lions Club storing decorations such as recycled bikes and wheels in the lead up to the event. The use of “donated fabric from local charity shops and hospital volunteers as decorations rather than purpose-bought materials” impressed the judges.
The winner of Best Paddock was Main South Road, Myponga Progress Association. This paddock stood out to the judges with the hilarious ‘Cow Pat Bingo’ to entertain the locals and visitors, a rock-climbing wall and a petting zoo.
M & L Nelson of Strathalbyn’s residence was the winner of Best Private Residence along the route for the mounted bike on their front fence, complete with the red-and-white colour theme.
