Once again, Liverpool City Council’s Australia Day festivities will be the place to be, with a huge line-up of entertainment in store for people from all walks of life to enjoy.

That’s the message from Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller, who said the city’s free Australia Day celebration remains a fun and welcoming event for everyone.

“Liverpool’s diversity is one of its greatest strengths,” Mayor Waller said. “For generations, people from all over the world have come to make Liverpool their home and this is something we proudly highlight in many of our major celebrations throughout the year, particularly at Australia Day.”

Council’s free Australia Day celebration returns to Woodward Park on Saturday 26 January, 5pm – 10pm, with Australian superstar DJ duo Mashd N Kutcher leading a stellar line-up of live entertainment.

There will also be tasty international cuisine; free children’s activities; carnival rides and games; whip-cracking, sheep shearing and more in the Aussie Outback Arena; a petting zoo; a spectacular firework display at 9pm; and giveaways galore.

“Australia Day is the premier opportunity for our community to come together and celebrate our city’s multicultural identity, and this diversity is proudly reflected in our entertainment line-up and the array of delicious food options that originated across the globe,” Mayor Waller said.

“For millennia, food has been something that brings people together, helping to forge friendships and overcome differences.

“That’s why food remains a special part of our big celebrations and this Australia Day we’ve proudly partnered with Seven Network’s My Kitchen Rules for their 10th Anniversary season.”

In addition to a marquee where event attendees can collect free recipe cards and My Kitchen Rules merchandise, 10th Anniversary season contestants will demonstrate how to cook some of their favourite dishes on the main stage.

“With such a wide variety of entertainment in store, I look forward to seeing the Liverpool community, and in particular our newest citizens, enjoying themselves at our Australia Day celebration,” Mayor Waller said.

“We’re also trialling a later event time so people can enjoy the fun, carnival atmosphere of our festivities while avoiding the heat of the day.”

Council’s Australia Day celebration will be held at Woodward Park in Liverpool on 26 January, 5pm – 10pm. The event site is a short walk from Liverpool station and close to bus routes, with plenty of parking available nearby.

Event-goers are encouraged to share their pictures on social media using the hashtag #AusDayLiverpool.
