Celebrate Australia Day the Queensland way Sunshin...
Boulia Shire Council 21 Jan 2019

Queenslanders are being encouraged to join together and celebrate our shared values this Australia Day.

Acting Premier Cameron Dick said an exciting program of events and activities in communities across the State was planned.

“Great Australian Bites, a multicultural food and music festival, will be in six regional locations – Airlie Beach, Bundaberg, Hope Vale, Rockhampton, Townsville and Warwick,” Mr Dick said.

“Great Australian Bites resembles a modern Australian barbeque, with a diverse array of food stalls, local produce, music, entertainment and family-friendly fun all on the menu.”

In addition to its Great Australian Bites event, Townsville will host Queensland’s Australia Day Flag Raising Ceremony at Jezzine Barracks.

Mr Dick said the event provided an opportunity for members of the community to respectfully acknowledge our country’s rich culture and heritage, while paying tribute to the contributions of the Australian Defence Force.

“More than 40 Australia Day Ambassadors including Queensland Greats, Paralympians and other athletes, entrepreneurs, chefs and television personalities will participate in Council-run events from Boulia to Cooktown,” Mr Dick said.

Australia Day activities in Queensland are proudly supported by the Palaszczuk Government in partnership with the Australian Government through the National Australia Day Council.

Great Australian Bites is being delivered in partnership with Bundaberg Regional Council, Hope Vale Aboriginal Shire Council, Rockhampton Regional Council, Southern Downs Regional Council, Townsville City Council and Whitsunday Regional Council.
