A free online movie streaming service is now available to all Cairns Libraries members.

Kanopy offers hundreds of movies, documentaries, kids’ programs and more, available for library members to stream to their own device free of charge.

Library members can log into the service from home or on a mobile device to access an extensive online library of films. Up to 10 films can be streamed for free each month and members have up to three days to watch each downloaded item.

“This is just one more benefit of joining Cairns Libraries,” Mayor Bob Manning said. “Our library service extends far beyond the books on the shelves.

“There is an extensive suite of e-services available through the website, from family history research tools to audio books and educational resources.

“If you haven’t taken the time to explore everything our libraries have to offer, you might be missing out.”

Kanopy was added to the suite of library services just before Christmas and already more than 1700 members have accessed the service.

“It’s particularly handy for the school holidays,” Cr Manning said. “There is an entire section of Kanopy dedicated to children’s programs.”

Kanopy is compatible with a range of devices, including iOS, Android, Apple TV, and Chromecast.

Members can now access Kanopy via the Cairns Libraries website. A library membership card is required for registration.

Non-members are invited to join Cairns Libraries and enjoy all of the services available. Membership is free and can be applied for online or at any of Cairns Libraries’ eight branches, located at Smithfield, Stratford, Manunda, Earlville, Edmonton, Gordonvale, Babinda and in the Cairns city.

While the use of Kanopy is free of charge, members are responsible for managing their data use when using the service. Kanopy is funded by the State Library of Queensland.
