“For the week ending 18 January, the following key works were completed by Council staff”, noted Council’s Mayor, Cr. Ray Thompson.

“Within the urban Lithgow area last week, Council staff have been working towards the repair of footpaths as a result of water main breaks throughout the area. Additionally, staff constructed a new disability compliant footpath allowing access to the new toilet block adjacent to Daintree Lane, Wallerawang. Lastly, with the ongoing rain, roofs of Council buildings throughout the area have required repair to prevent leaking. These works are being completed in such a manner to ensure these issues are solved in the long term.”

“Last week, our rural works staff saw to the maintenance of Red Hill Road, Ford Street, Rydal, Cuthill Road, Hampton, Dowdells Road, Hampton, Fragars Road, Hartley and Falnash-Illford Lane, Portland”, said Mayor Thompson. “Additional to this work, Council has been managing contract labour in order continue the clean-up efforts after last month’s storm. This has been an extended project with all costs being collated to recover expenses as part of a natural disaster claim from the state government.”

Mayor Thompson also noted that “alongside road maintenance, staff have been reallocated from Transport to Recreation in order to operate hired mowers and increase Council’s attention to grass mowing within urban areas using Council day labour. Council acknowledges this has been a substantial growing season and has heard the concerns of the community. Every effort is being made to increase our level of service commensurate with the increase in vegetation growth across our LGA while also maintaining other assets across the region”, said Mayor Thompson.
