Campbelltown’s more senior film buffs can enjoy a free Valentine’s Day screening of popular Australian movie The Sapphires during this year’s Seniors Festival.
The award-winning 2012 film, set in the 1960s, about an Aboriginal all-girl group is being shown for free at the Campbelltown Arts Centre during the two-week program.
This year’s Senior’s Festival focuses on people over 60, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders over 50 and people with a lifelong disability over 50, with the theme: ‘Love Your Life’.
“There’s a lot to love in Campbelltown and a great heart-warming film like The Sapphires is just right for our diverse community,” said Mayor George Brticevic.
“We’re also fortunate to reside in such a friendly and inclusive part of Sydney and there are many great opportunities for older people to get out and about during the festival to socialise and interact.”
Light refreshments, a candy bar, popcorn and fruit platters will be put on at both The Sapphires night screening and a free lunchtime showing of the Doris Day classic, Calamity Jane.
Calamity Jane screens at 1.30pm on Wednesday, 13 February, and The Sapphires at 7.30pm on Thursday, 14 February, at Campbelltown Arts Centre located at 1 Art Gallery Road.
Both sessions are free but space is limited so bookings are essential and can be made by contacting the Campbelltown Arts Centre on 4645 4100.
The Dumaresq Street Cinemas will also provide a complimentary popcorn, choc top or small drink with a ticket purchase and valid Seniors Card during Seniors Movie Week screenings from 10am-12pm, February 11-15.
The Seniors Festival runs from 13-24 February and includes concerts, drawing and tech workshops, art tours, socials and therapy groups.
