Broome onboard with e-waste recycling

Released 22 January 2019

The first container load of e-waste has been removed from Broome’s Waste Management Facility and sent to Perth to be recycled and reused.

The Shire of Broome introduced free domestic e-waste recycling in June 2018 as a proactive measure to improve recycling and reduce problem waste going into landfill.

In partnership with Tech Collect, the Shire is collecting e-waste including TVs, computers, monitors and projectors, printers and computer peripherals such as cables, parts and accessories.

The first shipment out of Broome included 10.2 tonnes of e-waste collected in the past seven months, which has been diverted from landfill and is helping to keep our environment healthy.

The program is ongoing and the community can drop off e-waste for free at the waste site during opening hours.
