Gladstone Regional Council wish to advise they will be commencing their animal inspection program as of 1 February 2019 until 30 July 2019 (6 calendar months).

Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett said the approved systematic inspection program will be conducted to determine the registration status of dogs within the region.

“Council is conducting these inspections to monitor compliance with Part 2 - Registration; and Part 4 - Renewal of Registration requirements of the Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) Act 2008,” Councillor Burnett said.

“House to house visitations will be conducted to determine if animals are being kept and if these animals are registered.

“All Council officers and workers, who need to enter a property, are required to display identification and advise the property owner of the reason for the visit/inspection.”

Cr Burnett said there have been two reminder notices sent regarding registration, and Council advises that it is the responsibility of the animal owner to notify Council of any change of address.

“This program will also assist in the collection of statistical data to provide an accurate record of the number of animals in the area and will be used as a method of identifying lost pets, so they can be reunited with their owners,” Cr Burnett said.

Councillor Burnett said the main purpose was to promote responsible pet ownership by requiring owners to register their animals.
