From children’s activities and official ceremonies to a bowls afternoon and an Aussie barbecue breakfast, there is something on the program for the whole family this Saturday 26 January.
Western Downs Regional Council has joined with community groups across the region to host wonderful events for residents this Australia Day.
Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Councillor Kaye Maguire is encouraging everyone to come and enjoy the local celebrations.
“This year we have so many unique activities happening in six of our towns across the region with most of our events being free so there is definitely something for everyone,” she said.
“It’s just another great opportunity for our communities to come together and not only celebrate our great nation but also our fantastic region.
“Last year’s Flavour It Your Way sausage sizzle was spectacular – I remember the winning flavour last year of pork, white chocolate and sultanas. Who would have thought how amazing thatwould taste in a snag. I’m very excited to see what the locals have come up with this year.
“Australia Day in the Western Downs is set to be full of fun and I can’t wait to celebrate with everyone.”
Council has once again partnered with local clubs around the region including the Rotary Club of Dalby who are providing a barbecue breakfast at Thomas Jack Park from 7am on Saturday.
Rotary Club of Dalby member Shirley Mellor is looking forward to another great event.
“We’ve worked with Council to provide this breakfast since I’ve been involved in Rotary, which has been over ten years, and it’s always been very successful,” she said.
“This year we’re looking at catering for 500, but we’ll have more on hand if we need, so there will be enough for everyone.
“It’s a really good program this year and I’m looking forward to celebrating in the park.”
Breakfast will be served at $10 per person or $25 per family in Dalby.
