Jubilee Pocket residents will have noticed the new 12-bay carpark along Jubilee Pocket Road, the first step of the latest Wildlife Park upgrade.
Whitsunday Regional Council will be continuing with the next stage of the upgrade over the next fortnight, installing a small amenities block, extra sheltered seating, a mouse wheel and flying fox, and connecting footpaths.
The upgrade is the result of extensive consultation with local residents in May last year, and will build on the new playground installed by Council at Wildlife Park in 2017.
Division 1 Councillor, Jan Clifford, said the extra facilities would improve an already popular park for families.
“Ever since we first installed the playground 18 months ago, families visit the park every day to enjoy the equipment and we are excited to improve these facilities even further,” she said.
“The toilet block, extra parking and new play equipment all received very positive feedback during the consultation process.”
The playground works will begin in early February and are expected to be completed by the end of May 2019, weather permitting.
During the works, some sections of Wildlife Park will be fenced off and there may be some noise and disruption during this time.
An upgrade of Stormvogel Drive Park in Mandalay is also underway, with the new playground and shade sail expected to be installed by the end of February 2019, weather permitting.
These upgrades are funded by the Queensland Government’s Works for Queensland program. The program aims to stimulate the local economy by providing construction jobs for local businesses.
