Watering times now have a clearer classification system.

Western Downs Regional Council is providing better access and making watering times clearer for residents with a new classification system.

Effective from next week, the region’s new policy will change its current six levels of restriction to just three simplified levels: Normal, Conservation and Emergency.

Spokesperson for Utilities Councillor Peter Saxelby said the new system would also help the community understand the region’s water supply situation at any time.

“Council is committed to ensuring the people of the Western Downs can enjoy modern infrastructure and a longterm water supply in the simplest way possible,” he said.

“The new water restriction levels of Normal, Conservation and Emergency will ensure the community understands where we’re at with water supply throughout the year and for years to come.

“These changes will add clarity and convenience, and we’re looking forward to seeing them take effect.”

Most Western Downs communities will be subject to Normal restrictions for the majority of the time when the new policy takes effect.

“Residents are encouraged to continue to limit outdoor water use despite the flexibility of the new levels and avoid a higher than average water bill,” Cr Saxelby said.

Council will continue to monitor water use daily to ensure it can keep up with supply, and the two-part tariff for excessive water use will remain unchanged.

The simplified water restrictions to take effect next week are detailed below.

Odd or unnumbered properties are permitted to water as allowed by the level applicable on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, with all even numbered properties permitted to water on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Please Note: A total watering ban will continue to be effective on Mondays.
