The leisure and toddler pools at Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre will re-open this week in time for the Australia Day weekend.
Works to the pool have finished more than a month ahead of schedule, allowing them to be re-filled and water tested in time to open again on Thursday, January 24.
City of Albany Executive Director Community Services Susan Kay said re-grouting, re-sealing and a clean have given the pools a new lease of life.
“We had to take advantage of our quietest time of the year to limit interruptions to our aquatic services as much as possible and we thank our customers for their patience while we carried out this work,” Mrs Kay said.
“It’s important we maintain our facilities to keep them in good order for our community to use and everyone involved has done an excellent job. This work has extended the life of these pools for many more years to come and they are looking as inviting as ever, so come on down on Friday and have some fun at the leisure centre.”
Re-roofing of a section of the leisure centre over the old courts has been rescheduled and will now start on February 4 and run to February 28, depending on weather. Courts 1 to 4 will be closed during the day during the re-roofing works.
“We’ll be aiming to have as many courts available as we can during the evenings and on weekends to accommodate basketball fixtures, however court availability is subject to change during the project so we’ll be posting regular updates to the ALAC web page and Facebook page,” Mrs Kay said.
Plans to upgrade the customer service counter have been postponed and are being re-scoped before re-advertising the tender.
“We have had to have another look at some of the works we had planned, so we’re going through the process now to review the project. Once we have new plans locked away we’ll let our customers know of the revised schedule,” Mrs Kay.
