Australia Day encourages us all to celebrate the things we love about our country so fire up the barbie and break out the eskies because there is plenty to do in our region. Choose from lawn mower races, dive in movies, egg and spoon races, a Bogan party, an Aussie bake off, World Cup gold fish racing and loads more. MOUNT ISA Saturday, January 26 in Mount Isa will start with a celebration of the achievements of community members at the Australia Day Awards Ceremony, as well as the Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony, at the Civic Centre from 9am to noon. A morning tea will follow. Then, in the afternoon the action moves to the swimming pool. Splashez will be open from 10.30am to 2pm for normal admission, then close between 2pm and 4pm while set-up activities are taking place. Splashez will then open at 4pm, with free entry for all. From 4pm to 6pm, there’ll be an Australia Day Pool Party at Splashez as well as a free sausage sizzle and cake, music and games. The Buffs Club are offering kids activities from 11am including lamington making and games to keep the whipper snappers happy and engaged. From 2pm Aussie Trivia, indoor cricket and indoor volleyball spark up the competitive nature of friends and families. A Bogan Party begins at 8pm with DJ Jepzen taking the stage at 10pm. There are Aussie day themed drinks nad games plus the best dressed bogan will be announced during the evening. The Irish Club are hosting an Australia Dy feast at the Keane’s Bar and Grill. Pavs, pies and a host of great Aussie delights will have you coming back for more but remember to book for this buffet by calling the Irish Club. Cost $22.50 CAMOOWEAL Is your mower tuned and ready to ride?  Is your gold fish pumped, ready for the inaugural World Cup race on Australia Day at Camooweal? You can’t go wrong with happy hour all day, the fun begins at noon on Australia Day and continues through to 1pm the following day. CLONCURRY SHIRE On Friday 25 Janaury Cloncurry Shire Council are hosting a dive-in movie at the Cloncurry Swimming Pool. The event is free and forr and snacks will be available. On ‘Straya Day the Cloncurry Community Precinct is the place to be for the Awards Ceremony. A free BBQ brunch will be available on copmpletion of the ceremonoy. Later in the  afternoon at 2pm the sporting fun begins at the Cloncurry Recreation Grounds. Bush Cricket and Tug-O- War competitions with prize money to be won will bring out the men from the boys and the women from the girls. The event is BYO but  the community is asked not to bring glass or spirits. BOULIA SHIRE Boulia Shire Council are hosting their Australia Day 2019 Breakfast and Awards Ceremony at the Boulia Shire Hall from 8.30am. Meet our 2019 Australia Day Ambassador whilst having a BBQ breakfast and join in on a free painting workshop with contemporary Aboriginal Artist Miss Chern’ee Sutton after the awards ceremony. MCKINLAY SHIRE Festivities will begin from 6pm at Julia Creek Combined Sporting Association with the Australia Day Awards, a free BBQ, a great Aussie bake off, and meet Australia Day Ambassador Dr Richard Lewandowski. Fireworks will end the night. RICHMOND SHIRE Richmond Shire Council along with Richmond Tennis Club are holding the Australia Day Awards Presentation with a free community breakfast. The event will be held at the Tennis Club with breakfast starting at 7.30am and the Awards ceremony beginning at 8.30am.
