Whitsunday Regional Council will be installing additional play equipment and facilities at the Cannonvale Lakes Park on Parker Road, over the next three months.

A new half-basketball court, a unisex public amenities block and a new swing set will be installed, along with a dedicated carpark and bridge maintenance access, currently under construction.

The new facilities will add to the existing playground and BBQ shelter which were installed by Council in October 2017.

Whitsunday Regional Division 2 Councillor, Ron Petterson, is looking forward to seeing works begin on the next phase of the upgrade.

“These new features will make the Cannonvale Lakes Park even more popular, not only for the nearby families but the wider community, who have become regular visitors over the past year” he said.

“The half-basketball court will help create a park that will appeal to a broader age range and give children and their parents an opportunity to be healthy and active outdoors together.”

“This park has become a fantastic space for the community, and I am excited to see the plans for the next stage come to life.”

The upgrade will begin in mid February and is expected to be completed by the end of May 2019, weather permitting.

During the works, some sections of the park will be fenced off and there may be some noise and disruption during this time.

These upgrades are funded by the Queensland Government’s Works for Queensland program. The program aims to stimulate the local economy by providing construction jobs for local businesses.
