As part of the Federal Government’s Black Spot Program, Toowoomba Regional Council will begin construction on the Tara and Fitzpatrick Street intersection upgrade project on Wednesday January 30, 2019 with completion expected in mid-April 2019 (weather permitting).

The upgrade will involve a full temporary closure of the intersection of Tara and Fitzpatrick Streets for the duration of the works.

Toowoomba Regional Council Chair of Infrastructure Committee, Cr Carol Taylor said the $470,000 upgrade project would include the construction of a new roundabout for the intersection.

“Council is grateful for the funding that has been provided through Commonwealth Government’s National Road Safety Strategy - Black Spot Program to upgrade the intersection and improve safety for the local community.

Cr Taylor said that during the construction period, traffic management and detours will be in place for the safety of crews and motorists.

“Pedestrian access past the intersection will be maintained.

“Council asks the community to please drive to conditions and be aware that temporary changes to traffic flow will occur.

“Construction work will take place generally between the hours of 6am – 6pm on weekdays.

“There may be a requirement to undertake some weekend and night works. Council will seek to minimise disruptions where possible,” Cr Taylor said.

“We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience during construction.”

The National Road Safety Strategy provides funding through the Black Spot Program to reduce the incidents of crashes on local roads.
