Our Health Agency’s Report Card is looking healthy.

All Category 1 emergency department presentations across the Central West, which are considered the sickest and most critically injured patients, were seen immediately during December, the latest performance data shows.

Central West Hospital and Health Service General Manager Acute Services Craig Carey says a total of 692 people across all five triage categories presented to Central West emergency departments in December 2018, a similar number to December 2017.

“Across all five emergency categories – with one being the most urgent and five being the least – the median waiting time was 0 minutes, and 99% of all presentations were seen within the clinically recommended waiting times for their category,’’ Mr Carey said.

“The percentage of patients requiring hospitalisation, who were admitted to hospital within 4 hours across all 5 categories, was 96 %.

“For patients who did not require hospitalisation, 98 per cent across all five categories were seen and discharged from the emergency department within 4 hours during December.”

“Both these percentages were well above the overall target of 80 % of all presentations to be able to depart the ED within four hours.’’

Mr Carey says no Central West patients who were ready for surgery waited longer than clinically recommended for their procedures in December.

“Central West Health delivers an extensive range of specialist surgical services as part of the elective surgery programme management.’’

“Visiting specialist services available for adults and children include, orthopaedic surgery, ear, nose and throat, ophthalmology, obstetrics and gynaecology, and general surgery.”

“Specialist clinics that feed into Central West surgical lists are also delivered at facilities outside Longreach, including Blackall, Barcaldine, Winton and Boulia.”

“This means that Central West residents can obtain specialist consultations within their local community, reducing the impact of having to travel or waiting longer than clinically recommended for assessment and treatment.’’
