Library Lovers Day Writing Workshop

 February 14 every year is famous for the celebration of love, but in the library world we celebrate Library Lovers Day.

An initiative of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA), Library Lovers Day reminds us of why we need libraries and to encourage us all to support them by showing our love. From 11-15 February we will be celebrating the special place that the Library holds in the Lithgow community. The theme this year is “Library Love Stories”. For the whole month of February you can come into the Library and see displays of love and romance. Perhaps you might revisit an old flame in a classic, or meet someone new on the pages of a recent release.

“The Library makes a real and substantial contribution to our local community. It is always a pleasure to spend time there and I will certainly be popping in to pick up a romantic read,” said Mayor Ray Thompson.

During the week of 11-15 February there will be giveaways and sweet treats, as well as a chance for you to tell us which stories you have loved and why.

As part of Library Lovers Day 2019, ALIA are running a flash fiction Competition.

The competition is open to everyone. Using the prompt, “there was love to be found at the library” write your story in 200 words or less. Submit your story via the ALIA website – Library Lover’s Day page.

To get you started the Library will be holding a collaborative writing workshop on 14 February at 11am. Come along and together we will write a collaborative story to submit to the competition, you will also get ideas and inspiration for your own story. Bookings are essential for this free event.
