Sights set high for future of Cessnock Airport

Cessnock City Council is encouraging residents to provide feedback on the Draft Cessnock Airport Strategic Plan which is now on public exhibition until the 20 February 2019.

The newly developed five year plan identifies a vision for Cessnock Airport to be a viable, user friendly and vibrant aviation hub in the Hunter region.

Cessnock City Mayor, Councillor Bob Pynsent said this is an important public asset and we must plan for its future to unlock its potential.

“The central location of the airport makes it a fantastic asset and the plan identifies ways for further development as an aerodrome business hub.”

“This plan enables us to be ready to embrace opportunities that arise, particularly when it comes to seeking funding. The airport can help grow tourism and entertainment and develop the local freight industry.”

A number of short term and long term actions are specified in the plan. This includes everything from extending the runway, increased power availability, improved water and sewerage, improved development controls and upgrading facilities on the western side of the airport grounds.

The five year business plan included in the document also outlines priorities for the airport to ensure its long term growth and viability.

The plan can be accessed online at www.cessnock.nsw.gov.au/community/exhibition/draftairportstrategicplan or in hard copy at Council’s Administration Building and at the Cessnock and Kurri Kurri Libraries.

Responses should be directed to The General Manager, Cessnock City Council either via email at [email protected] or mailed to PO Box152 Cessnock 2325.
