Pack a picnic and rug, and come along to Hanging Rock on Saturday 16 February to experience a screening of Peter Weir’s iconic film Picnic at Hanging Rock under the stars.
Mayor, Cr Janet Pearce said this was a great annual event celebrating an enduring local story.
“Picnic at Hanging Rock is a fascinating tale, full of mystery, tragedy and suspense,” Cr Pearce said.
“It’s fantastic that audiences have the opportunity to see this classic movie on outdoors and on the big screen, in the exact location where it was filmed all those years ago.
“If you’ve read the book, seen the original film, or streamed the recent mini-series remake, I’d encourage you to come along and experience it again.
“Watching the sun set behind the Rock and sitting out under the stars as this hauntingly beautiful film plays really is an experience you won’t forget.”
Picnic at Hanging Rock was filmed in 1975 and is based on the 1967 novel by Joan Lindsay.
It is the story of three school girls and a teacher who go missing there on Valentine’s Day in 1900.
Tickets are $25 adult, $10 children and $60 for a family and can be pre-purchased online until 2pm on Friday 16 February.
Tickets can also be purchased from the gate on the night (cash only, no EFTPOS facilities).
Gates will open at 7pm, with the film beginning around 8.15pm.
Patrons are advised to bring along a jacket or jumper, and something to sit on such as a deck chair or blanket as seats will not be provided. Picnic dinners are also welcome.
