The City of Ballarat wishes to clarify information highlighted in an article by The Courier this evening, and comments that have followed on social media. 

Please note the following points regarding the report being presented to Council on Wednesday night on overseas travel: 

Both instances of travel involve a Council officer only. These trips will not be attended by the Mayor or Councillors.  The trips come at no cost to the City of Ballarat. All expenses are being covered by the event organisers.  The trip to Abu Dhabi is part of our Historic Urban Landscapes (HUL) project with UNESCO. It is not related to the World League of Historical Cities.  We, as an organisation, are proud that our staff are invited to speak at and participate in conferences internationally. It is a credit to them, their expertise, and the quality of staff we are fortunate to have working towards a big, better and bolder Ballarat.
