The Giru Water Tower and low level storage tanks are currently at 100% capacity however residents of Giru and surrounding areas are requested to restrict water usage to essential purposes only until further notice.
Whilst the Giru/Cungulla Water Treatment Plant remains operational increased flows and turbidity in the Haughton River following heavy overnight rainfall in the catchment will impact treated water production rates. Normal treated water production rates cannot be achieved until such time as turbidity levels in the Haughton River stabilise following any level of flooding in the catchment.
Moderate flooding levels are forecast for the Haughton River today and with rain forecast to continue into next week, turbidity levels are expected to be higher than normal for an extended period.
Please use potable water for essential purposes only until further advice can be issued by Burdekin Shire Council.
Please remember
It is vital that residents in Giru conserve water.
