Access and Inclusion consultation continuing in February 2019!

Getting into buildings, using footpaths safely, enjoying parks and playgrounds or accessing toilets and change rooms are just some of the initiatives Council wants to improve across our region with help and input from our community.
Mayor Bill Ludwig said Council is continuing its Access and Inclusion consultation throughout February, in order to gain feedback from residents to help find better ways to ensure the community is accessible.
“Council is encouraging residents to participate in-person at two community sessions in Yeppoon and Emu Park in February, as well as via the online engagement platform, Get Involved,” Mayor Ludwig said.
“Council continues to strive to be a leader in making our region an accessible and welcoming place to people of all abilities, age groups and backgrounds. The recent completion of the Causeway Lake amenities where two PWD (persons with disability) toilets were installed was a perfect example of a community group like the Capricorn Coast Community Access and Equity Group (CCCAEG) working with Council to ensure the needs of all residents is met, and a high standard of local infrastructure is maintained.”
Community Development Councillor Jan Kelly said an accessible community is where everyone can use public facilities with ease, and where everyone can find information in a format that is useful to them.
“The Community Development and Engagement Team will collate responses and develop a report that will advise Council of the results and recommendations for enhancing or improving access and inclusion across the Shire,” Cr Kelly said.
Ben Cooke, Anti-Discrimination Commission Queensland Regional Manager and Chair of the CCCAEG, said the Causeway Lake amenities upgrades and this consultation process further demonstrate the commitment by Livingstone Shire Council to collaborate with the community and work actively towards making our region an all-inclusive place to live, work and play.
“I encourage everyone to add their voice to the consultation process to assist Council to work towards improving and enhancing equitable access to the community for everyone. Get Involved!” Ben said.
