Inclement weather on Thursday morning did not deter a very excited Mayor Henry Zelones from smiling as he turned on the water tap to fill the covered leisure pool at the $26 million upgrade to the Armadale Fitness and Aquatic Centre.
The Armadale Aquatic and Fitness Centre (AFAC) will officially open its doors to the public on 11 March and offers something for every member of the community with indoor and outdoor pools, a zero depth splash pad, a wellness suite with spa, sauna and steam room, a gym, group fitness studio and cycle studio, crèche and café.
City of Armadale Mayor Zelones OAM, JP said our community has been waiting for the construction of an indoor aquatic facility for thirty years, and it is now a reality with only weeks left until it opens.
“The City campaigned for this project since the early 1990s and I am thrilled to see it go ahead while I am Mayor.
“Patrons returning to the AFAC will not recognise the complex which offers the latest in fitness and aquatic facilities, although it has retained the much loved shaded picnic areas that families have enjoyed for years.
“The state of the art gym is fitted out by Technogym, the official supplier to six Olympic and Paralympic Games and the Group Fitness Studio will host a variety of classes,” he said.
Foundation Memberships at a discount price are available for a strictly limited time only until AFAC opens on 11 March – and with a range of memberships on offer from as little as $12.50 per week for fitness and $10 per week for aquatic and no lock in contracts.
AFAC's Swim School is now taking enrolments all year round with memberships available for just $30 per fortnight.
“Our community has the opportunity to view the Centre and all the services available at a free family event on Saturday 16 March from noon to 4pm.
“There'll be plenty of fun and entertainment for the whole family with live music, interactive games and activities for children and more.
“There's even a café with seating on site, plus a variety of food trucks will be at the Open Day, where you can purchase food,” said Mayor Zelones.
