Greg Doyle will take on the role of General Manager (acting).

Wollongong City Council has set up a Recruitment and Selection Committee to oversee the appointment of a new General Manager.

General Manager David Farmer resigned on 20 December 2018 and has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of Ipswich City Council in Queensland.

At last night’s Council meeting, Councillors resolved to establish the Recruitment and Selection Committee made up of Wollongong Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM, Deputy Lord Mayor David Brown, Councillor Tania Brown, Councillor Leigh Colacino and Councillor Mithra Cox.

The Committee’s responsibilities will be to coordinate the recruitment process and to keep fellow Councillors informed. The final decision on the successful applicant will be made by the full Council.

“David Farmer has been a dedicated General Manager for the 11 and a half years he has been with the organisation in this role and I’d like to thank him for his hard work,’’ Councillor Bradbery said.

“Under his leadership he has seen Council maintain and improve services for our community as well as achieving recurrent budget improvements. We will miss him. However, this is also an exciting opportunity for Council and our community.’’

While recruitment is underway, Greg Doyle, Council’s current Director Infrastructure and Works will take on the role of General Manager (acting).

The recruitment is expected to take a minimum of four months.
