Giru and surrounding area residents advised to secure belongings, move to higher ground

Current Bureau of Meteorology models are predicting continued heavy rainfall in the Haughton River Catchment area which may cause major flooding.

Residents in Giru and surrounding areas are advised to secure belongings and move to higher ground if safe to do so.

The Bruce Highway is closed between Sandy Corner and Alligator Creek due to flooding at the Barattas and the Haughton River Bridge. The Bruce Highway will remain closed today.

The Burdekin Local Disaster Management Group encourages everyone to stay safe and keep out of flooded waters.
