City puts safety first

Morley students are well on their way to enjoying safer school commutes with the addition of two new children’s crossings outside Hampton Senior High School.

 The City of Bayswater has now finished half of the $20,000 project with one children’s crossing at the intersection of Maidstone Way and Beechboro Road North completed just in time for the start of the school year, and a second crossing at Hamersley Avenue is scheduled to commence in April this year.

City of Bayswater Mayor Dan Bull thanked Hampton Senior High School staff for prioritising the safety of students both in and out of school hours.

“Over the past 12 months, the City has been working closely with members of the school’s administration, Main Roads, the Department of Education and WA Police to identify the most beneficial locations for the new crossings.

“By creating safer pathways leading to schools, we’re hoping to make it easier for kids and parents alike to get active and walk, ride or scoot their way to school.

“It’s the perfect time of year to get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather, and we’re working towards making sure it’s as safe as possible to do so.”

The crossings will be manned by two traffic wardens during the busy morning and afternoon periods.
