Award winning journalist and host of Canberra’s 1206 2CC Breakfast Show, Tim Shaw, has been announced as Yass Valley’s Australia Day Ambassador for 2019.

“Like many Yass Valley residents, I love visiting Murrumbateman's wineries, love reading the Yass Tribune and I am looking forward to driving on a fully duplicated Barton Highway sooner rather than later’, said Tim Shaw. “I am delighted to be the Australia Day Ambassador for Yass Valley and look forward to celebrating with a BBQ breakfast in the park.”

Yass Valley’s official Australia Day event will be held on Saturday, 26 January in Coronation Park, Yass. The Rotary BBQ will start serving breakfast from 7.30am, with formalities commencing at 8am.

“Tim has always been a fabulous supporter of Yass Valley, helping to promote our region across the airwaves of 1206 2CC,” said Mayor, Rowena Abbey. “With his wonderful sense of humour, he will bring a great energy to our special Australia Day breakfast.”

Council received over 36 nominations for the 2019 Australia Day Awards, which recognise outstanding community contributions by Yass Valley residents.

“We placed a lot more emphasis on promoting nominations for our Australia Day Awards and are extremely pleased with the result,” said Mayor Abbey. “We have some exceptional people being recognised for all the work they do to make Yass Valley the special place it is.”

With your kids entertainment taken care of, with face painting, jumping castle and park playground, Yass Valley families are encourage to kick of their Australia Day celebrations at Coronation Park.
