Park upgrades for Bowen begin soon

Gideon Pott Park and Rose Bay Park in Bowen will have new playground equipment and park facilities installed by Whitsunday Regional Council, with works expected to start in the next fortnight.
The upgrade at Gideon Pott Park in Queens Beach is based on planning and consultation undertaken by Council in mid 2017, and will include new BBQs, shelters and a rope climbing playground.
The existing skatepark at Queens Beach will also be removed and replaced with a new skate bowl facility.
Rose Bay Park will be receiving a new BBQ shelter and two more shelters along the foreshore park area near the beach.
Whitsunday Regional Division 6 Councillor Mike Brunker said the new facilities would reinvigorate the coastal parks and give families another reason to enjoy the outdoors.
“The new playground equipment and picnic facilities will be of great benefit to both residents and visitors to Bowen,” he said.
“Our parks are such an important space for the community, and it is vital we continue to upgrade and improve these facilities.”
The works are expected to be finished by the end of May 2019, weather permitting.
During the construction, sections of Gideon Pott Park and Rose Bay Park will be fenced off to complete the works, and there may be some noise and disruption in the parks during this time.
These upgrades are funded by the Queensland Government’s Works for Queensland program.
The program aims to stimulate the local economy by providing construction jobs for local businesses.
