Council is inviting tenders for the construction of a new waste containment cell at Shoal Bay Waste Management Facility.
This multi-million dollar project will increase the site’s landfill capacity and ensure the ongoing sustainable management of waste in the region.
Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said that construction of the stage 6 waste containment cell will be a major contract for Council.
“This is a significant capital works project that will inject funds into our local economy.”
“Currently, the Shoal Bay Waste Management facility has utilised 5 landfill ‘stages’. The fifth stage was constructed in 2016/17 and is expected to reach capacity during the Dry Season in 2020.”
“In order to meet the needs of Darwin residents, businesses and external users, Shoal Bay Waste Management Facility must continue to expand and we as a community must look for opportunities to manage our waste more responsibly” said the Lord Mayor.
Works to construct the new cell are planned to be undertaken through the upcoming dry season and will be completed in line with NT Guidelines and in cooperation with NT Environment Protection Authority.
The tender is now open for submissions and will close at 2pm CST, Tuesday 5 March 2019. Tender documents and more information can be located on the City of Darwin Tenders Portal.
