Interruption to waste collection in Giru and surrounding areas

As a result of the current weather conditions and subsequent flooding in the Haughton River catchment area, Burdekin Shire Council’s waste collection contractor is currently unable to access Giru and the surrounding areas. Consequently, some residents may not have received their usual waste collection services this week.

Council will be meeting with our waste collection contractor on Monday 4 February to develop a plan to remove refuse that was not able to be collected. This strategy will largely be dependent on current flood levels and vehicle accessibility.

Council will be releasing information regarding the proposed waste collection plan early next week.
